This position is responsible for coordinating the Garngi Ranger Group and for assisting Aboriginal land and sea owners and managers to maximise their participationin all Caring for Country activities. The ranger work area includes Croker and other small islands and sea country as well as some mainland areas nearby.
Applicants should possess a sound knowledge of Aboriginal Caring for Country management opportunities and constraints, with demonstrated ability to effectively manage work teams in remote locations. You will have experience working with Aboriginal communities in coordinating resource management projects, from planning through to implementation and reporting.
Good communication, negotiation and community consultation skills, with tertiary qualifications in natural resource management or related discipline, and/or extensive relevant experience are essential. A Certificate II in Maritime Operations (Coxswain Grade 1) or the ability to acquire one, and experience in vessel operations and maintenance, will be highly regarded.
A demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture and issues, with the ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with Aboriginal people is required, as is possession of a ‘C’ class driver’s licence and the ability to safely drive 4WD and ATV vehicles.
