About the role:

We have an exceptional opportunity in our Softwood Plantation division, for a seasoned professional to lead a team involved in our operations and activities relating to the silvicultural management of our tree crop and fire preparedness within the Bombala Management Area. 

The successful candidate will oversee the establishment of over 1,000 ha of plantation annually with responsibilities to include management of site preparation, planting, aerial herbicide spraying and supervision of windrow and hazard reduction burning.  The position also manages forest stewardship and fire protection responsibilities for approximately 32,000 ha of plantation.

About you:

To be successful in this role you will be able to demonstrate;

  • Strong and successful history in fire management in both wildfire and silviculture operations
  • Strong leadership capabilities and experience in managing a team in a complex environment;
  • Experience in the management of field operations and delivering specified operational outcomes;
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to build strong stakeholder relationships with internal and external stakeholders;
  • Well-developed planning, organisational and administrative skills;
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in natural resource management or land management or equivalent is not essential but ideal;
  • A current Driver’s license is essential.

Forestry Corporation employees contribute to fire preparedness and suppression activities. Responsibilities will include fire-standby as rostered and deployment as a fire-fighter or part of the incident management team. Fire duties will include weekend work and extended hours (e.g. firefighting nightshifts).
