The Department of the Environment & Energy designs and implements Australian Government policy and programs to protect and conserve the environment, water and heritage, promote climate action, and provide adequate, reliable and affordable energy.
A unique opportunity exists to join the Supervising Scientist Branch in Darwin. The role sits within the Supervision and Monitoring team, and will be responsible for the oversight and management of our integral water quality monitoring program.
This innovative program is designed to continuously monitor water quality in the waterways surrounding the Ranger uranium mine, and through integration with accompanying biological and radiological monitoring, helps to ensure the ongoing protection of Kakadu National Park.
The Role & Duties
In addition to environmental monitoring, this role will support the diverse range of other activities undertaken by the Supervision and Monitoring team, which includes oversight of the regulation of uranium mining in the NT, ongoing assessment of environmental applications related to operational water management and site rehabilitation, environmental incident investigations, science communication and community engagement.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop a unique skillset related to uranium mining and environment protection, and will be able to explore and harness opportunities within our diverse team by working collaboratively with our environmental research institute and various other teams in the Department.
