Volunteers wanted: Environmental projects
4 x 'yes' = Conservation Volunteers.
Conservation Volunteers is a not-for-profit, community-based organisation that is dedicated to involving volunteers in conservation projects to help the environment. Each year, around 12,000 volunteers take part on over 3,000 projects around Australia and New Zealand.
Conservation Volunteers is always looking for new and enthusiastic volunteers to get on board and help with conservation projects. Typical tasks include planting trees (around a million every year!) removing weeds, collecting native seeds, building tracks and trails, as well as improving habitats and carrying out wildlife surveys.
Projects take place in urban, regional and remote areas. Each project lasts for a day, a week or longer, depending on the individual conservation outcomes required. The longer projects, which include a residential stay, require payment of a small fee to cover the costs of volunteers’ meals, accommodation and travel. Participation on single day activities is, of course, completely free – just bring lunch and water with you!
Volunteering under the direction of an experienced Team Leader is a great way to build practical skills and experience, and of course to make a direct contribution to practical conservation. It’s also a fantastic way to meet new people and enjoy a healthy outdoors activity.
No special skills or previous experience are required – on-site practical training is provided by our Team Leaders.
We have 25 offices around Australia and three in New Zealand.
