The Natural Resource Managament team at GMHS are passionate about the environment, and safely, effectively, and successfully delivering and contributing to the services and outcomes of our clients and the community spaces they maintain and enhance.

The NRM team are responsible for the delivery of a variety of environmental and natural resource management activities and works including the maintenance of assets and the delivery of natural resource projects.  This can include Revegetation and plant maintenance, weed management including aquatic weed management, litter removal, construction of bank stabilisation, and bird netting installation.

About the Role

As the NRM Supervisor you will be responsible for sourcing works, undertaking quotation, design, planning, and delivery co-ordination of an NRM program of works including projects and maintenance works.  You will lead our NRM crews including internal resources and seasonal casuals, and provide organisational and technical skills to ensure program, resource and client outcomes are achieved safely, effectively and within budget. The Supervisor maintains on-ground delivery oversight for medium-high value and complexity projects and is a resource for the Leading Hand(s) on allocated projects. Skills, Knowledge and Experience

Demonstrated experience and capabilities working as a Supervisor or Project Manager in the environmental and natural resource management industry. Consideration will be given to a higly experienced NRM Leading Hand with demonstrated leadership capabilities, ready to take their next step in their career.

  • Diploma or Degree in Environmental Science, Conservation and Land Management or related disciplines and/or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to take responsibility for ensuring own and team members physical and psychological wellbeing and safety.
  • A drive and ability to maintain continuous improvement identification and implementation across all areas of operations to achieve quality, safety, technical and productivity outcomes.
  • Other desirable qualifications, including Chainsaw Ticket, First Aid Level 2, White Card, ACUP.
  • Ability to lead and deliver by trying different approaches, making it safe to fail and learn, and providing feedback to enhance and refine.
  • Sound self-awareness and communication skills, with an ability to work in a team environment and proactively communicate clearly and effectively with a range of people.
  • Proven ability to coach and mentor to support team performance and development of skills and capabilities.
  • Advanced competency and knowledge in a variety of environmental and natural resource management and maintenance techniques and methodologies including understanding of technical drawings, application of relevant codes, standards, and legislative requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience in a program of works delivery, oversight and quality, environment and safety management system implementation, including scheduling, planning, auditing and reporting.
  • Excellent indigenous and exotic plant identification skills.
  • Understand the design elements for revegetation works, materials and techniques.
  • Ability to manage people across range of employee life cycle from recruitment, onboarding, training, performance management and development planning.
  • Ability to use and to teach others about safe operation equipment and verification of competences.
  • Knowledge and experience in computer programs and online management systems including MS Office suite, quotation templates, spreadsheets, and document production.

Other Requirements

  • Criminal records check and Medical assessment if required.
  • Current Victorian Manual Drivers Licence.
  • Ability to maintain physical fitness and co-ordination skills for manual tasks completed.
  • Ability to meet other duties as required by Business Manager from time to time, including additional hours outside of normal business to meet workload requirements.
  • Travel will be required throughout Greater Melbourne and surrounds (a company vehicle is provided), and this may require driving for extended periods.
