The Mulloon Institute (TMI) is a world class research, education and advocacy organisation in the regenerative agriculture sector.

Our innovative approach works to re-establish the natural function, fertility and resilience of agricultural landscapes and incorporates the work of a range of ground-breaking regenerative farmers.

The Human Resources Manager (HRM) will work across all levels of the Mulloon Institute and its subsidiaries – Mulloon Consulting and Mulloon Creek Natural Farms. The HRM will provide an informed, professional and efficient service on all aspects of human resources management.

Reporting to the Chief Executive, the HRM will work closely with all staff to identify HR priorities and recommend appropriate solutions in relation to organisational development, culture and change to deliver outcomes and manage issues. The HRM will be responsible for ensuring all staff have well defined job descriptions and KPIs in order to achieve Mulloon’s key business, research and education objectives in line with its strategic plan.

TMI has a fully flexible workforce, with the exception of staff of Mulloon Creek Natural Farms near Bungendore in southern NSW, who work on the farm. The HRM will be required to see farm staff from time to time. As such, living in the Canberra region is preferred.

Reporting Lines for this position

  • Position Reports to the Chief Executive.
  • There are no direct or indirect reports.

Required skills, experience and qualifications

  • relevant tertiary qualification (or equivalent) and experience in the management of human resources and organisational change
  • proven capacity to operate both strategically and operationally with expertise in strategic development and execution across a range of human resources, organisational and cultural change programs
  • demonstrated commitment to teamwork and the construction of a supportive, collaborative work environment with the ability to lead, supervise, coach and develop employees
  • excellent collaboration and interpersonal skills with the ability to work in partnership with senior leaders, managers and staff to implement organisational improvements
  • demonstrated ability to critically analyse issues and develop and implement effective strategies and solutions that support the Mulloon Institute’s goals and values
  • excellent communication skills including the ability to prepare high quality written reports, policies, action plans, correspondence and other documentation as required.

Key Accountabilities

  • manage end-to-end workforce planning including forecasting needs, job design and evaluation, recruitment and selection processes, on-boarding new employees and coaching and liaising with line managers
  • review staff experience to ensure their skills match their positions  
  • working closely with the Chief Executive, embed TMI’s values across the Mulloon Institute and its subsidiaries to ensure a happy, stimulating and inspiring workplace
  • lead, monitor and review TMI’s performance management framework
  • ensure all staff have relevant job descriptions and measurable KPIs
  • ensure all training and professional development is linked to organisational goals and coach individuals to improve performance and capability or achieve career progression
  • develop, implement and maintain HR policies and practices that reflect contemporary, evidence-based approaches and meet legislative requirements
  • manage the remuneration structure and salary reviews, providing recommendations to the Chief Executive
  • oversee Work Health & Safety matters including committee and injury management to ensure a safe and supported environment
  • accountable for delivering on assigned outcomes and for the accuracy, integrity and quality of advice provided in this context
  • ensure TMI staff are empowered to inquire, explore, build knowledge and act with integrity at all times
  • provide mediation when required if conflict arises.
