AMBS Ecology & Heritage is seeking individuals with experience in fauna or flora surveys who are enthusiastic about fieldwork. 

Our work includes flora and fauna surveys, vegetation mapping, biodiversity monitoring, targeted threatened species surveys, fauna ‘spotters’, nest box installation and monitoring, ecological impact assessments, Biodiversity Assessment Methodology (BAM) reports, and flora and fauna management plans. Most of our projects incorporate a fieldwork component and some of the work is seasonal.

Due to the seasonal nature of the work, there are multiple positions available for individuals interested in casual or contract work, with potentially a full-time role for suitable candidates. Applicants from throughout NSW will be considered as much of the survey work will not be Sydney-based.

We are seeking a variety of candidates with a range of experience levels, from senior to entry-level. The key criteria are:

• strong plant or animal identification skills;
• at least 1 year of experience in roles that have involved undertaking surveys for flora or fauna in Australia.
• willingness to work in remote and regional areas for several days at a time, including outside normal hours, over weekends, and in adverse weather conditions;
• ability to use technology such as GPS, smart-phones, digital cameras, i-pads/tablets and laptop computers;
• commitment to meticulous recording of field data;
• strong understanding of, and commitment to, WH&S in the field;
• ability to deal with a range of clients, colleagues and regulatory authorities with professionalism and integrity;
• current driver’s licence.

Criteria that are not essential, but will be well-regarded, include a tertiary qualification in biology, a current First Aid certificate, related industry field experience (e.g. bush regeneration), and experience in the ecological consulting industry.
