About Great Southern Land

Great Southern Land Conservancy (GSL) is a non-profit organisation that acquires high conservation value land and manages it for conservation.  

We bought our first parcel of land in 2025. GSL currently owns and manages 3 properties in NSW covering nearly 10,000 hectares and protecting ~40 threatened species.  Additional properties are being assessed for acquisition. 

We are a small team (currently 4 FTE plus awesome contractors who we love working with) focused on delivering practical land management (feral animal control etc) guided by world class ecological health monitoring.

We want a great ecologist to join the team.  This is still early in the GSL journey … so you get to be part of the super fun early years, shaping the culture and direction of the organisation and setting us up for success.

We are driven by a core belief that acquiring land and managing it effectively is the best way to help stop and reverse the decline in Australia’s wildlife and habitats.

This is a role for someone who wants to get things done. 

Reporting to Chief Executive, the Senior Ecologist is responsible for managing GSL’s science program.  The science program involves:

• the design and implementation of programs that measure and report on changes in the ecological health of each property
• providing advice on the design of land management strategies including fire management, feral animal control, weed control and large scale revegetation programs
• assessing potential acquisitions

Other components may include reintroductions, scientific research partnerships and natural capital projects (such as environmental planting ACCU projects).

There will be a real focus on new and emerging technologies including the development and testing of new products, so you need to be excited by drones, etc and ideally have some relevant experience.

Salary is negotiable but likely in the range of $120K - $150K plus super, depending on experience.
