The Hills and Fleurieu Landscape Board (HFLB) is committed to supporting First Nations as leaders in caring for Yerta/Ruwe/Watta. The role seeks to build strong and enduring relationships with First Nations and bring an understanding of First Nations interests, issues and/or concerns as they relate to Country in the Hills and Fleurieu region. The First Nations Liaison Officer is responsible for facilitating First Nations active participation in relation to natural resource activities. The role provides expert advice regarding Aboriginal engagement; to develop and implement projects and ensure meaningful First Nations input to strategic landscapes programs including the LHF Stewardship Program. This position works closely with Kaurna, Peramangk and Ngarrindjeri organisations, communities and individuals.
As First Nations Liaison Officer, you will:
- Develop and nurture productive working relationships with relevant First Nations organisations and people, government departments, and community leaders.
- Provide expert advice to internal and external stakeholders, ensuring that Hills and Fleurieu regional decision-making and program initiatives include informed input from First Nations.
- Identify, implement, and deliver First Nations engagement interests on Landscape Board projects on time.
- Connect and support First Nations communities to develop and implement strategies for their own natural resource management priorities.
- Facilitate and/or develop cultural heritage management systems and protocols and provide relevant information to key stakeholders.
- Raise community education and awareness of cultural heritage and Aboriginal land management perspectives through activities such as property visits, field days, media activity, and presentations.
- Support LHF in providing a workplace committed to cultural safety for First Nations people.
- Provide a First Nations perspective in communications where possible, including publications, print and social media, presentations, workshops, and forums.
- Work collaboratively with the First Nations Partnership Officer and Stewards to build and nurture relationships with Peramangk, Kaurna, and Ngarrindjeri organisations and communities, and involve them in the planning and management of Yerta/Ruwe/Watta.
The details:
- 1x full-time (37.5 hrs/per week), ASO5 First Nations Liaison Officer
- Term position to 30 June 2028, available immediately
- Located in Mount Barker, South Australia, with flexible working arrangements negotiable
Remuneration:
$89,007 - $98,991 per annum (ASO5) – pro-rata for part-time hours
Requirements:
- National Police Check
- Current class “C” driver’s license and willingness to drive is essential
- Australian residency or a current work permit
