Wet Tropics Management Authority (WTMA) is seeking new members for our Scientific Advisory and Community Consultative committees to bring scientific expertise, cultural insights, and community perspectives into World Heritage management.

These key advisory groups provide independent, evidence-based advice to the WTMA Board, supporting the protection and management of the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area (the Area).

The membership of both committees will include at least two Rainforest Aboriginal Peoples, preferably one male and one female, subject to interest and availability. Indigenous members of the Scientific Advisory Committee may be, but need not necessarily be, a person with western scientific training. Bio-cultural expertise, especially Rainforest Aboriginal Peoples cultural heritage knowledge or expertise - including policy or matters pertaining to Rainforest Aboriginal Peoples intellectual property - is equally important.

Committee members are appointed for a three-year term. The Committee will meet a minimum of three times a year with most meetings held in Cairns. Committee membership is on a voluntary basis as per Queensland Government policy, with Rainforest Aboriginal committee members paid in accordance with the Department of the Environment, Tourism, Science and Innovation (DETSI) First Nations Payment Guide.
