ORGANISATIONAL CONTEXT:
The ESA is a membership based Society and the peak body for ecologists within Australia. The ESA’s mission is to foster excellence in ecological science and practice. This role will be responsible for the implementation of the Reflect RAP and the subsequent development of the next stage Innovate RAP in collaboration with the Indigenous Engagement Working Group (IEWG) and the ESA Executive Officer.
RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES
- Develop an implementation plan and project timeline for delivery of the ESA Reflect RAP.
- Facilitate internal and external stakeholders to assist in the development and implementation of ESA RAP.
- Manage the implementation of the RAP and Indigenous Engagement strategy, under the guidance of the ESA IEWG, ESA Executive Officer and ESA Board.
- Consult with Indigenous Environmental Researchers and agencies, to identify Indigenous aspirations, knowledge and outcomes as they relate to ESA’s membership, including the delivering and managing of ESA Indigenous network.
- Monitor, evaluate and report on the progress and outcomes of ESA RAP activities including liaison with and reporting to Reconciliation Australia and regular progress reports to the ESA Board.
- Work with the IEWG in developing the second stage Innovate RAP
- Work with the IEWG in facilitating the Indigenous engagement goals within the current ESA Strategic Plan.
- Provide protocol culturally appropriate advice and input to enhance ESA outputs and engagement including submissions, discussion papers, annual conference program, and media and web content.
- Coordinate meetings, briefings and other opportunities for consultation with Indigenous ESA members and other Indigenous representatives, groups and communities.
- Research and provide advice to the ESA Board and Working Groups on culturally appropriate and effective methods for communicating and engaging with Indigenous individuals, groups and communities.
- Work with the Executive Officer to develop targets, measurements and KPIs against the ESA RAP.
- Perform ad-hoc duties as required.
ESSENTIAL SELECTION CRITERIA
- Demonstrated experience in Indigenous engagement in a complex, multi-stakeholder environment.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to build and maintain positive and constructive relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
- Capacity to quickly understand and work within accountability requirements regarding governance processes.
- Understanding of cultural governance processes and cultural obligations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organisational skills and ability to prioritise time and tasks and manage them effectively.
- Work to deadline in an environment of shifting priorities and high stakeholder expectation.
- Self-motivation and flexibility in responding to changing work priorities, with the capacity to work independently and as the member of a team.
- Capacity to support the development and delivery of strategic policy, projects and initiatives will be highly regarded.
- Ability to work effectively in a remote work from home role under minimal supervision.

REMUNERATION
This role:
- Is a paid 0.5 FTE part-time position;
- Is a remote/work from home role
- $40 per hour based on experience
- Contract or employee option
- Includes travel and accommodation to attend the annual ESA Board Planning Day and Annual Conference if required.
OTHER
- This role works closely with the Indigenous Engagement Working Group and the Executive Officer to manage delivery of the RAP;
- Some travel may be required to attend meetings e.g. the annual ESA Board Planning Day, linked to the Annual Conference. Travel and accommodation costs in these circumstances will be covered by ESA.
