OzFish is seeking a highly motivated Safety Officer to join our Business team. Our Safety Officer will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety of our staff, Chapters, supporters and members across the country. They will ensure our team’s compliance with OzFish safety policies and procedures, develop new processes, procedures and draft policies as required. You should expect to work with all OzFish staff teams, and to travel to OzFish working locations in all Australian states and territories. You will be working within our Business Team, responsible for maintaining our core business functions.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Engaging with our OzFish staff teams, maintaining consistency across company-wide safety policies and procedures and identifying any gaps.
- Working with OzFish staff team to ensure the safety of all OzFish members and volunteers, during any OzFish business or event.
- Maintaining our Safety Champion WHS platform, including assisting OzFish staff team to utilize the platform regularly.
- Regular safety communication with the OzFish staff team, including bi-monthly all-staff Safety Forum, ensuring teams are regularly meeting on safety and regular staff safety communiques – in particular for new regulations or policies.
- Reporting quarterly on safety incidents, investigations and mitigations, to be supplied up to Risk Committee and Board.
- Ensure all staff have appropriate PPE and training, ensure records are up to date. Developing budget requests as required.
- Manage the distribution of appropriate equipment, PPE and training for volunteer safety, and keep records.
- Manage feedback, complaints and claims around safety from volunteers and members.
SELECTION CRITERIA
Required;
- Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety or equivalent qualification
- Demonstrated understanding of the WHS Act 2011, relevant updates and relevant codes of practice including Australian Standards
- Ability to interpret and apply legislation and policy to ensure compliance across diverse work environments.
- Demonstrated experience in systematically conducting internal audits, inspections and ensure compliance with company policy and procedures, and take corrective steps.
- Ability to proactively identify hazards, work with a remote team to identify hazards and recommend practical control measures
- Familiarity with WHS Platforms (such as Safety Champion) and incident management systems and commitment to up to date record keeping.
- Experience in conducting risk assessments, incident investigations and implementing mitigative action
- Strong written and verbal communications skills, in particular to relay important policy and procedures and training sessions from time to time.
- Capacity to engage the OzFish team, members and volunteers to promote a positive safety culture.
- Experience writing reports and presenting findings to senior management, including data-driven insights.
Desirable;
- Capacity to influence and lead safety initiatives, fostering continuous improvement.
- Additional certifications including First Aid, White Card, WHSO Certificate of Authority
- Experience in managing workplace incidents, including insurance claims and regulatory notifications.
