Nantawarrina Indigenous Protected Area (IPA) Nipapanha Community Aboriginal Corporation (NCAC) is seeking a motivated and passionate Land Management Coordinator to lead and support the Nantawarrina Indigenous Protected Area and Ranger Program in the northern Flinders Ranges of South Australia.

This is a unique opportunity to work on Country with Traditional Owners and Indigenous Rangers at Nantawarrina Indigenous Protected Area, the first Indigenous Protected Area declared in Australia and the world.

You will play a key leadership role coordinating ranger activities that protect and manage the environmental and cultural values of Adnyamathanha traditional lands.

About the Organisation

Nipapanha Community Aboriginal Corporation (NCAC) manages governance, programs and services for the community of Nipapanha (Nepabunna), located in the beautiful northern Flinders Ranges approximately 65 km east of Leigh Creek.

NCAC also manages the 58,000-hectare Nantawarrina Indigenous Protected Area, where Indigenous Rangers work to care for Country through conservation, cultural land management and knowledge sharing.

About the Role

The Land Management Coordinator will provide day-to-day leadership and supervision of Indigenous Rangers and trainee rangers, coordinating activities across the Nantawarrina IPA.

Working closely with the General Manager, the successful applicant will support land management programs that protect cultural heritage, improve environmental outcomes and strengthen community capacity.

Engage and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders, ensuring activities are delivered in accordance with agreed partnerships, stakeholder agreements and program requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and supervise Indigenous Rangers and trainees undertaking land and cultural management activities.
  • Develop and implement weekly and monthly ranger work plans.
  • Support training, mentoring and capacity building for ranger staff.
  • Oversee equipment, vehicles and operational resources.
  • Ensure safe work practices and compliance with WHS requirements.
  • Prepare weekly and monthly activity reports for the General Manager and NCAC Board.
  • Assist with program reporting and compliance for the Indigenous Ranger Program and IPA funding agreements.
  • Support delivery of the Healthy Country Plan and other land management priorities.

Selection Criteria

Essential

  1. Experience in natural resource management, conservation, land management or environmental programs.
  2. Experience supervising or coordinating teams, preferably in remote or field-based environments.
  3. Ability to work respectfully with Aboriginal communities and Traditional Owners, supporting Indigenous ranger development and knowledge transfer.
  4. Demonstrated ability to plan and coordinate field activities, including work plans and project delivery.
  5. Strong communication and reporting skills, including preparation of activity reports and program updates.
  6. Ability to manage equipment, vehicles and operational resources safely and effectively.
  7. Understanding of Work Health and Safety requirements in remote field operations.

Computing Skills

  1. Competent in the use of Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel and Outlook.
  2. Ability to prepare reports, spreadsheets and written correspondence.
  3. Experience maintaining digital records, data entry and file management systems.
  4. Ability to use email, online reporting systems and cloud-based document platforms.
  5. Basic skills in using GPS, mapping tools or environmental data systems (desirable).

Qualifications and Licences (Minimum Requirements)

  • Certificate II in Conservation and Land Management (or equivalent experience)
  • Current Class C Driver’s Licence
  • Working with Children Check
  • CFS Basic Firefighter Level
  • White Card (WHS Construction Induction)
  • Senior First Aid Certificate

Desirable

  • Experience working in Indigenous Protected Areas or Indigenous Ranger Programs.
  • Knowledge of environmental management in arid landscapes.
  • Experience with government-funded environmental programs and reporting requirements.
  • Ability to operate 4WD vehicles and field equipment.
