POSITION LOCATION: 235 Victoria Street, Cardwell, Queensland
FIXED TERM: 22 hours/week (6-month contract)
HOURLY RATE: $30 - $35/hour (based on skills and experience) with leave loading + superannuation; salary sacrifice is available

The Communications Support Officer works under the guidance of the Communications Officer to help deliver clear, respectful, and effective communications for Girringun Aboriginal Corporation.
The role supports the promotion of programs, achievements, and community activities across digital, print, and media platforms. All communication must be culturally appropriate, accurate, and community focused.
This position helps strengthen relationships with community members, partners, and stakeholders, and supports Girringun’s public profile.

KEY RESPONSIBILITES
Communications and Media
- Help develop and deliver communication plans.
- Write and edit content for newsletters, website, social media, reports, and promotions.
- Assist with media releases and media enquiries.
- Maintain consistent branding and messaging.
Digital and Social Media
- Update and manage social media and website content.
- Create engaging posts and visual content.
- Monitor online activity and prepare basic reports.
- Respond to online enquiries in a respectful and professional way.
Community Engagement
- Support communication with community and partners.
- Promote events, workshops, and activities.
- Record and share stories, projects, and successes.
- Ensure content reflects cultural values and community priorities.
Administration and Office Support
- Maintain communication records, files, and image libraries.
- Assist with scheduling, printing, and distribution of materials.
- Support reporting and funding requirements.
- Proofread documents and arrange printing.
- Keep network files up to date.
- Identify promotional and partnership opportunities.
- Attend Girringun and partner events when required.
Compliance and Cultural Protocols
- Follow organisational policies and funding rules.
- Respect cultural knowledge, copyright, and confidentiality.
- Seek approval before publishing materials.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience using Microsoft Office.
- Good keyboard and computer skills.
DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS
- Qualifications in communications, media, marketing, or community development.
- Experience in a community-controlled organisation.
- Skills in photography, video, or storytelling.
- Knowledge of the Girringun region and Traditional Owner groups.
SELECTION CRITERIA
