The Opportunity:
The role reports to the Gippsland Silviculture Manager and requires you to liaise with and influence silviculture foresters and contractors to coordinate and develop programs, strive for innovation and achieve quality control and continuous improvement.
You would oversee planning and implementation of all silviculture and plantation management operations across the Region. This also includes contract and budget management, fire management, stakeholder engagement and a constant focus on environmental compliance and safety.
The opportunity allows you to:
- Participate as part of the high performing HVP silviculture team, including being exposed to broader responsibilities of the Silviculture Manager
- Support and mentor District Foresters in their roles
- Monitor costs and regularly evaluate the cost effectiveness of plantation management activities
- Organise, coordinate and participate in aerial herbicide programs for plantation establishment
- Build productive relationships by interacting with planning, field based foresters and other functional areas
What you will need to succeed:
- Experience in softwood Forestry particularly in planning, budgeting and implementation of silvicultural, forest protection and stewardship activities
- Ability to develop and innovate in areas like aerial herbicide programs, chemical application and weed control techniques
- Ability to identify where change and improvement is required in operational activities
- Be able to effectively implement a change management process across the internal staff and contractor workforces.
- Ability to communicate clearly and confidently (verbal and written), possess good negotiation skills, establish and maintain good staff, contractor and customer relationships
- Experience in delegating work to crew & contractors and supervising work quality.
- High level of GIS systems knowledge and utilisation
- High level of skill in the Microsoft suite of programs – particularly Word & Excel
- Ability to work autonomously to achieve company outcomes within a commercial environment
- Ability to assume leadership role in fire prevention and suppression roles
A relevant tertiary qualification is preferred for this position
