Karajarri people are the traditional owners of the land and waters along the southwest Kimberley coast, extending from Eighty Mile Beach to Gourdon Bay. Karajarri country is the source of spirit, culture, and language for our people.

The Karajarri Traditional Lands Association (KTLA) is the Registered Native Title Body Corporate established in 2002 to represent the Karajarri people. Through the Karajarri Ranger and Indigenous Protected Area programs we manage more than 32,000 square kilometres of jurarr (coastal areas) and pirra (inland areas). WHO YOU ARE

  • A culturally competent individual with experience operating in a remote context.
  • A leader and able to coach, mentor and support a team of rangers to develop and build their capacity.
  • Experienced at implementing Healthy Country Plans, developing and implementing work plans, managing assets, and well developed networks. 

THE POSITION

Reporting to the Land & Sea Manager, the IPA COORDINATOR and will work closely with the Karajarri ranger coordinators and Karajarri Traditional Owners to ensure that the IPA is managed in a manner consistent with Lore and Culture and the Karajarri Healthy Country Plan. The IPA Coordinator will achieve this by working in partnership with the ranger team, elders and traditional owners, Karajarri Land and Sea Manager, other KTLA staff and external project partners. 

KEY FOCUS:

Create better operational systems, facilitate the development of SOPs and build the capacity of the coordinators and rangers: individual and team/department level. 

 KEY ACCOUNTABLITIES

  1. Implement the Healthy Country Plan alongside other KTLA departments
  2. The day-to-day coordination and management of the ranger coordinators: coaching and supporting them to carry out operations with the Karajarri rangers
  3. Develop and implement work plans and manage all operational aspects of the program
  4. Support the Land and Sea Manager with compliance, budgets and facilitating partnerships
  5. In collaboration with the Training and Development Coordinator:
    • Identify capability gaps and design learning and development activities for the ranger unit
    • Coordinate the training and development activities of all rangers in the unit
  6. Coordinate succession planning for the ranger unit
  7. Ensure operations are safe and compliant and vehicles and other assets are well maintained

Pre-Employment Checks - Must Be Maintained Throughout Employment

  1. Current:
    • Driver's Licence - manual.
    • Working with Children Check (WWC).
    • National Police Clearance.
  2. Possess and maintain a level of physical fitness.
  3. Pre-employment medical may be required prior to and/or during employment.

What We Offer

  1. A base salary of $94,133.80 per annum (FTE).
  2. The total remuneration package of $112.9k to $115.2k per annum (FTE) includes 12% superannuation, 4-weeks Annual Leave with 17.5% Leave Loading, 1-week Remote Leave, Annual Airfare Allowance, District Allowance, Mobile Phone Allowance and Salary Packaging.
  3. Please note:
    1. The remuneration package may be negotiable for a successful applicant exceeding all the essential criteria in relation to experience, skills and qualifications.
    2. If applying from outside the Kimberley, relocation support may be provided to the successful applicant.
