The Coastal Engagement and Project Coordinator (South Region) connects community, local government, schools and businesses with the planning and delivery of on-ground projects that help to protect and regenerate coastal ecosystems between Cottesloe and Rockingham. This role combines a hands-on approach to on-ground conservation work with the opportunity to support and grow Perth NRM’s Coastal + Marine Program through partnerships.
Duties and Accountabilities
- Plan, coordinate and lead the delivery of on-ground conservation events including planting days, hand-weeding, site maintenance and beach clean-ups for community and school groups.
- Plan, coordinate and lead the delivery of workshops, field trips, stakeholder engagement events and other community engagement activities as required by projects and partnerships.
- Demonstrate a good understanding of coastal ecosystems, plant communities and restoration techniques to implement best practices.
- Provide support to coast care groups to enhance their capacity to achieve on-ground results.
- Participate in regular Coastal + Marine team meetings discussing planned activities, challenges and opportunities.
- Monitor contractual obligations for projects in accordance with project costing, timeliness, quality and scope.
- Participate in the collection and collation of monitoring, evaluation and reporting data, to the reporting standard required.
- Contribute to developing communications materials in partnership with the Communications team.
- Liaise with stakeholders associated with the delivery or enhancement of projects and identify opportunities for collaboration.
- Contribute to growing or adding value to the program by identifying opportunities or additional funding resources. Contribute to writing tenders, grants and proposals as required.
- Represent Perth NRM at relevant meetings and events including involvement in steering, reference and advisory committees.
- Comply with WHS regulations and mitigate risks.
- Flexible work week arrangements to accommodate for seasonal workloads. Please note: there is a significant requirement to coordinate and host weekend community events, particularly over winter planting season (May-Aug).
- Understand and comply with Perth NRM policies and procedures.
- Other duties as required.
Essential Criteria
- Qualification in conservation and land management, environmental science, coastal or marine science, natural resource management or similar.
- Demonstrated experience leading conservation, natural resource management and/or environmental education projects including planning, implementation and reporting.
- Demonstrated experience delivering engaging community events that encourage participation to a wide range of audiences.
- High-level verbal and written communication skills, including reporting, presentations and stakeholder engagement, with the ability to clearly communicate to diverse audiences.
- Demonstrated experience managing Work Health and Safety (WHS) considerations in project and fieldwork settings to achieve safe and compliant outcomes.
- Class C Driver’s Licence.
- Working with Children Check.
- Seniors First Aid Certificate (or ability to gain this certificate upon commencement of work).
Desirable Criteria
- Experience coordinating or contributing to grant writing, project development and corporate sponsorships.
- Experience working within a non-profit, community-based, environmental education or environmental non-government organisation setting.
Contract
This role is offered at a full-time, fixed-term position for 12 months, with the possibility of extension.
