The Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Cultural Heritage Aboriginal Corporation (Wurundjeri Corporation) is a Registered Aboriginal Party appointed under the Aboriginal Heritage Act 2006. The Corporation holds statutory responsibilities for the protection and management of Aboriginal cultural heritage and Aboriginal intangible heritage on Wurundjeri Country. Additional functions of the Corporation include, environmental land management, cross-cultural education, traditional welcome to country and smoking ceremonies, research and cultural consultations. 

About the Role

The Narrap Unit is the dedicated Caring for Country unit of WWCHAC. The unit incorporates two distinct but connected programs – the Ranger Program and the Water Program - and centres itself on asserting and maintaining Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung cultural rights and responsibilities of protecting and caring for Country. The unit also creates opportunities for Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung and other First Nations people to have culturally meaningful, secure work that supports professional development and the continued management of country.

The Ranger Program is focused on delivering Country restoration and management work - healing Country guides our program. Through our skilled and experienced team, the Ranger Program embeds Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Country management principles and practices in Natural Resource Management (NRM). We work with an array of different clients including state government agencies and water corporations, LGAs, non-profits and the private sector. Importantly, our Ranger Program includes a path for First Nations people to develop careers in the environmental management.

This position will be focused on supporting the continued development of the Narrap Unit through high level administrative, operational and project management support. This will include developing and maintaining various stakeholder relationships, and the planning and delivery of NRM projects. The Project Manager has responsibilities for delivery of all parts of the project cycle including planning, implementation, budget management and reporting. The position works closely with the Ranger Program Manager, the Ranger Operations Coordinator and the Narrap Ranger team to support the delivery of NRM projects across Wurundjeri Country.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work closely with Ranger Program team to plan and coordinate NRM activities across Country, including supporting other Narrap Ranger Program project and administration staff to ensure the appropriate scheduling and delivery of the works program
  • Manage the delivery of NRM projects including
  • Defining project objectives, project scope, roles & responsibilities
  • Defining resource requirements and managing resource availability & allocation – both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Preparing a detailed project plan to schedule key project milestones, workstreams, and activities.
  • Tracking project budget and providing regular reports on project status to project team and key stakeholders.
  • Managing relationships and communication with project stakeholders internally and externally.
  • Managing reporting and project acquittals
  • Develop high-quality reports and communications
  • Report on completed projects and acquit funding
  • At the direction of the Ranger Program Manager, identify grant funding opportunities and support the Grants Officer and Finance team in preparation of applications.
  • Liaise with state government departments and agencies to progress Wurundjeri Corporations objectives in NRM and where requested represent the Wurundjeri Corporation in meetings
  • Act as a key contact for NRM activities across Wurundjeri Country
  • Participate in developing, reviewing and responding to policy both internal and external
  • Develop and review media and communications on Narrap Unit projects
  • Alongside the Rangers, lead the design and development of project and landscape plans

Experience, Skills, and Qualities

  • Drivers licence.
  • Qualifications in NRM, Environmental Science, Land management & Conservation, or demonstrable industry experience
  • Relevant NRM accreditations are desirable. (i.e. chainsaw, ACUP, General Firefighting, etc.)
  • National Police Check.
  • Working with Children Check.

About You

  • 3+ years in a similar role
  • Experience working with logistics of a large team.
  • Experience working with First Nations Peoples.
  • Contacts and relationships within the Victorian NRM and environmental management sector.
  • Computer proficiency, particularly in the Microsoft Office suite.
  • National Police Check.
  • Working with Children Check.
