About the role:

Australian Wildlife Conservancy (AWC) is looking to recruit a suitably qualified ecologist with a strong interest in applied conservation ecology to join our science team.

Reporting day-to-day to AWC's Senior Wildlife Ecologist South-east, the position will play a key role in implementation of AWC's science program at one or more AWC properties and partnership sites in the region. This includes key programs related to ecological monitoring, the reintroduction of locally-extinct species, and ecological research. The role has a significant field component and will be responsible for leading small teams in the field.

This job would suit a field ecologist motivated to play a key role in major conservation projects. The successful conduct of the role is expected to result in tangible improvements to the conservation of fauna and flora in south-east Australia.

  1. Relevant professional qualifications and experience.
  2. A strong drive to personally make a positive difference to the conservation of Australian wildlife.
  3. The desire to work as part of a high-performing team of conservation ecologists, contributing what you can and learning from the skills and ideas of your colleagues.
  4. A willingness to learn from the experience and world-view of others, particularly the diverse range of stakeholders involved in the South-east program, including AWC's Operations Managers, our project partners, Traditional Owners and the broader community.

Qualifications:

  • A higher degree (Honours or equivalent) in ecology/conservation biology (or similar) is essential. Experience leading teams in the field and reporting on the outcomes of ecological monitoring will be highly regarded.

Licenses, Certificates and/or Training:

  • Valid manual Australian driver's licence. You will need to be able to drive a manual 4WD vehicle in difficult conditions. Training in relevant competencies may be required.
