Help Shape the Future of Water in the Hills and Fleurieu Region

We’re seeking a Senior Water Planner to help lead the planning, implementation and review of Water Allocation Plans in one of South Australia’s most unique and biodiverse regions.

This exciting role combines technical expertise, policy development, and meaningful community engagement - ensuring water decisions are informed by science and driven by inclusive and collaborative processes.

You’ll work closely with First Nations, industry groups, landholders, and technical experts to guide sustainable water use and achieve the priorities of the Hills and Fleurieu Landscape Plan.

As the Senior Water Planner, you will:

  • Contribute to the review and implementation of Water Allocation Plans in line with legislation and community needs.
  • Apply your technical expertise to develop sustainable water policy and planning.
  • Deliver water resource projects aligned with strategic regional goals.
  • Provide timely, expert advice to the Board, staff, and stakeholders.
  • Engage meaningfully with industry, community, and First Nations stakeholders.
  • Prepare clear communication materials and consultation responses.
  • Draft high-quality Board papers and Ministerial briefings.
  • Build strong working relationships to support collaborative planning and decision-making.

About You:-

  • A skilled communicator – you can translate complex science and policy into clear, accessible advice
  • Stakeholder-savvy – you’ve worked with landholders, government, First Nations groups, and industry
  • Analytical and thoughtful – you can interpret legislation and bring science, data and policy together
  • Detail-focused – you’re confident drafting policy documents, preparing briefings, and managing multi-faceted projects
  • Passionate – you care about water, people and place, and the future of our productive and natural landscapes
  • Knowledgeable – you understand the trends and pressures facing agriculture, water use, and environmental systems.

The Details:

  • One full-time (37.5 hrs/per week) position.
  • Term position for 2 years.
  • Located in Mount Barker, South Australia

Remuneration: ASO6 - $98,478 - $104,165 per annum

Special Conditions

  • This role has been designated a Position of Trust pursuant to the standards required in the Australian Government Protective Security Policy Framework and requires a satisfactory National Police Clearance prior to employment.

Desirable

  • A tertiary qualification in Natural Resource Management or similar is highly desirable.
