About Us

OzFish Unlimited partners with fishers and the broader community to invest resources into the protection and restoration of our waterways, counteracting decades of degradation.
About the Role
Oysterworld is located at the Port of Brisbane, and is a light industrial facility where OzFish staff and volunteers build shellfish reef restoration units to aid in restoration efforts throughout the region. We’re looking for a Team Leader to keep Oysterworld running smoothly, safely, and efficiently.
In this role, you’ll focus on keeping the site and its functions well-maintained, participant safety, running ‘working bee’ events and ensuring everyone feels supported and included. You’ll balance hands-on coordination of volunteers with administrative organisation.
You’ll receive full training in shellfish reef restoration and have plenty of opportunities to grow your skills and knowledge. With this support, you’ll be ready to guide volunteers and make a real impact on restoration activities. This is a hybrid role, and you will be on-site at Oysterworld as required, with the option to undertake administrative duties from home where appropriate.
What You'll Do
Site Management
- Ensure the safety of all site visitors and volunteers by adhering to and improving robust safety protocols.
- Oversee and coordinate the maintenance of machinery, vehicles and site infrastructure, delegating tasks to volunteers where appropriate.
- Manage site tidiness, safety fencing, weed control and compliance with Port of Brisbane lease requirements.
- Monitor materials and expendables, ensuring timely purchasing within allocated budgets.
- Oversee the storage and organisation of shellfish reef restoration treatments and materials.
Volunteer Engagement and Coordination
- Keep volunteers motivated and engaged by creating opportunities for involvement in maintenance, innovation and shellfish reef restoration activities.
- Facilitate training for volunteers to safely use equipment, including the mini loader, motorised pallet jack, trailers and boats.
- Empower volunteers to contribute ideas and solutions, ensuring their involvement in tasks before outsourcing work.
- Organise and manage volunteer working bees and weekly volunteer activities such as shell collection and on-site tasks, including purchasing and maintaining supplies.
- Encourage people to join OzFish and help expand membership.
Administration and Budgeting
- Maintain and manage budgets effectively, balancing site needs and volunteer-driven improvements.
- Update and maintain safety documentation, traffic management plans and other compliance requirements.
- Process payments for registrations and other expenses, including volunteer expenses.

- Innovative mindset: Openness to working with volunteers on creative problem-solving and new approaches.
