Apunga Nursery are seeking 1 x Experienced provenance native nursery hand (5 days/week) for casual positions (with possible future permanent position upgrades).

We are social, plant nerds looking to share knowledge and improve ourselves as well as the ecology we grow for. We operate in Mangrove Mountain, and so central coast residence is preferable for you.

The Role:

We are seeking an enthusiastic and reliable Nursery Hand to join our dedicated team. This hands-on role involves assisting with the propagation, care, and maintenance of native plant stock, ensuring high standards of quality and environmental responsibility are maintained throughout the nursery.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Seed sowing, pricking out, and propagation of native plant species
  • Watering, weeding, fertilising, and general plant care
  • Potting and tubestock preparation
  • Pest and disease monitoring and control
  • Assisting with seed cleaning, collection, and record-keeping
  • Packing orders and loading/unloading deliveries
  • General nursery maintenance and hygiene
  • Following OH&S procedures and sustainability practices

Required Criteria:

  • Genuine interest in native plants, conservation, and environmental sustainability
  • Physical fitness and stamina – ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and perform manual tasks
  • Good attention to detail and a willingness to learn nursery tasks
  • Ability to follow instructions and work both independently and as part of a small team
  • Punctuality, reliability, and a strong work ethic

Desirable Criteria:

  • Previous experience working in a naitve nursery, horticulture, or revegetation environment
  • Knowledge of local native plant species and ecological restoration
  • Certificate in Horticulture, Conservation & Land Management, or similar (or working towards)
  • Experience with seed collection, handling, or propagation
  • Manual driver’s licence and own transport
  • First Aid certificate and/or ChemCert accreditation

Other desirable criteria:

  • Own vehicle and willingness to travel within Greater Sydney.
  • Other related qualifications such as White Card, Chem Cert
