About the Role:
In this full time role, you will work closely with our project managers to oversee day-to-day on-ground operations at our bush regeneration sites and mentor our teams to deliver impactful results. This role will be responsible for ensuring environmental factors are effectively managed and addressed. The main aspect of the role is providing guidance and direction to the operations teams in implementing and monitoring environmental management systems and standards by minimising the operational impact on the environment.
This role requires flexibility to be based in regional South East Queensland and Central Queensland as needed to support project operations in these areas.
Key Responsibilities:
Collaborate with project teams to identify, propose, and implement solutions to mitigate negative environmental impacts for clients.
Analyse the effects of environmental factors—including terrain, altitude, climate change, nutrition sources, predators, and human activities—on plant and animal life.
Support the implementation of conservation and resource management policies, including the rehabilitation of areas affected by activities such as mining, forestry, and overgrazing.
Contribute to conservation efforts in designated parks and protected areas, ensuring the preservation of natural and cultural heritage.
Assist clients in environmental management planning by providing ecological insights and compiling inventories of flora, fauna, and cultural heritage items.
Plan and supervise field teams in weed control operations across diverse sites, including remote natural areas and industrial landscapes.
Implement various weed control methods, ensuring adherence to best practices and legislative requirements.
Provide technical expertise in native vegetation identification and the management of noxious and environmental weeds.
Oversee rehabilitation and land management initiatives to meet environmental compliance and sustainability objectives.
Collect, analyze, and report environmental data for both internal and external regulatory reporting.
Conduct environmental monitoring activities, including assessments of air quality, noise, vibration, and water quality.
Assist in the development and execution of environmental management plans to ensure regulatory compliance and sustainable outcomes.
Required Skills and Experience:
qualifications in one or more of wildlife biology, ecology, environmental science or related disciplines.
understanding of wildlife management principles and fauna survey methods.
minimum of 3 years experience working within a commercial consultancy or a similar multi-faceted fast paced work environment.
proven track record of managing project timeframes, field resources, and budgets.
have working knowledge of relevant Australian legislation, planning policy and, best practice guidance, and how these relate to projects.
excellent communication and presentation skills and an ability to convey information accurately.
fluent proposal and report writing ability and technical writing skills.
strong OH&S standards and the ability to prioritise the safety of the teams in the field.
a current Australian manual driver’s licence.
Demonstrated experience in applying a range of ecological restoration approaches and revegetation techniques.
High physical fitness and the ability to handle the demands of fieldwork.
Overall, the following skills and attributes would be highly regarded:
experience with managing projects in Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems and/or exposure to NetSuite
ArcGIS or QGIS mapping experience
Current first aid certificate
4WD experience and training
