Applied research undertaken by the Plant Science and Herbarium Program documents the diversity and investigates the conservation biology of Western Australia’s flora. Major research objectives include documenting Western Australia’s vascular plants, algae and fungi and understanding their evolutionary relationships, determining the causes of decline in the State’s most threatened plant species and ecological communities, and developing practical approaches for their recovery, including threat mitigation, seed conservation and plant reintroductions.

We are currently seeking a Senior/Principal Technical Officer (Identification Botanist) to join the team.

This is primarily an identification botanist role, sitting within the Western Australian Herbarium business unit at the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions. The staff member in this role is responsible for the efficient provision of plant specimen identification services, with a focus on priority projects in the Perth and Peel region.
