Title:

Ecological Consultant

Advertiser:

Biodiversity Monitoring Services

Location:

Lithgow / Mudgee, NSW

Salary etc:

Negotiable (based on experience)

BMS is a small ecological consultancy with over 40 years' experience in NSW. We specialise in the field of fauna (including long term biodiversity monitoring, impact assessment, targeted threatened species surveys, planning advice and wildlife management).

Due to growing business, we are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic person to work from our Lithgow office, and to carry out field-based surveys in the Lithgow-Mudgee-Orange Region and beyond. The appointee will work as part of a small team. Remuneration will be based on the experience level of the candidate, with experience in consulting being viewed favourably. There is scope to consider both senior and junior ecologist positions.

The successful applicant will be working primarily on field surveys (either as lead or assistant), with an opportunity to learn or be involved in other facets of ecological consulting along the way. Work will be for clients in both the private and public sectors. Duties may include project planning (including web-based desktop survey and research), on-ground fauna surveys (diurnal and nocturnal), animal handling, equipment maintenance, data entry, data analysis, GIS mapping, statistics and report writing. The successful applicant will be a 'self-starter', with the ability to seek out relevant data and other information required for effective survey and reporting.

The junior level position will be on a full-time casual basis initially, with a minimum commitment of six months (due to the cost of inductions and medicals). The work is planned to start immediately. If interested in (and qualified for) a senior level position (at least three years consulting experience in NSW) a more permanent package can be discussed up front.

As the role involves a lot of field work, you will be away from home on work a lot. Expenses while away will be covered but keep this in mind when applying for the position. The plus side is that it is a good way to save for one of those elusive houses everyone wants but can't afford these days.
