We now have an exciting opportunity for a Research Worker to join our team in TropWATER in the Research Division and work with the Great Barrier Reef Catchment Loads Monitoring Program.

  • Full-time and fixed-term for two years .
  • Located at the picturesque Townsville Bebegu Yumba campus in tropical North Queensland.
  • HEWL 5 $74,401 - $84,388 p.a. plus up to 17% employer superannuation contributions, leave loading and other generous employee benefits.

About TropWATER

The Centre for Tropical Water and Aquatic Ecosystem Research (TropWATER) is Australia's premiere tropical aquatic research group and is an amalgamation of aquatic expertise from across James Cook University (JCU). The Centre comprises of over 150 staff and 100 post-graduate students and performs research in fields related to water science, resource management and the ecology of water ecosystems.

About the Role

This role involves undertaking water quality monitoring and maintaining associated equipment (water quality probes, dataloggers, auto-samplers, physical instream infrastructure). This work enables the collection of real-time monitoring data for Great Barrier Reef Catchment Loads Monitoring Program (GBRCLMP), associated projects, as well as on-going collaboration with staff and students between TropWATER and Water Quality and Investigations (WQI), Science Division, Department of Environment and Science (DES).

Qualifications and Experience

  • Proven experience in field-based work or other logistical operations and familiarity with field equipment, preferably environmental monitoring equipment.
  • Effective verbal communication and interpersonal skills to maintain highly effective working relationships with researchers and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage and prioritise own workflow to meet deadlines, working effectively independently on routine procedures as well as part of a team.
  • Experience in the collation and management of scientific data and demonstrated effective computer literacy in the Microsoft Suite and other database/statistical related software.
