As the Ranger in Charge you will manage the day-to-day operations of the Triabunna-Maria Island Field Centre. You will support and develop the skills and potential of your team and contribute to progression of the regional business plan and achievement of the strategic goals.

The Ranger in Charge is responsible for a small team of dedicated and highly competent individuals who focus on the management of a diverse range of reserves in the region. This area ranges from Swansea to Marion Bay, Whiteford to Nugent.

You will work with a range of stakeholders and be embedded into the community, overseeing the management of coastal, off-shore island, forested and marine reserves, including Maria Island National Park and the Darlington Convict World Heritage Area.

The Triabunna-Maria Field Centre is a special place with something for everyone! This region features awe-inspiring natural beauty including a World Heritage listed Convict Site, a range of native species including threatened wildlife, unique cultural heritage, pristine beaches, and clear water supporting marine reserves teeming with biodiversity.

In this position you can contribute to projects supporting the natural and cultural values and pursue your professional goals without sacrificing recreation and adventure.

Our ideal candidate has

  • A Diploma in Conservation and Land Management or other qualifications deemed equivalent.
  • Minimum of five years' experience in reserve management, or equivalent.
  • A current motor vehicle drivers' licence.
  • Proficiency in staff supervision, leading teams and volunteer programs.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and stakeholder liaison and negotiation skills.
  • Experience with fire management operations.
  • Operational management skills, including project management, resource allocation and decision making.
