This exciting new senior role has been created as part of Abzeco's recent acquisition by PF Olsen (au.pfolsen.com) and will be pivotal in supporting the next stage of Abzeco's evolution.

To support the next stage of Abzeco's journey, we're appointing a suitably experienced person to manage our field crew business through a phase of sustainable expansion. This position is available on a full-time basis and will suit an experienced field crew practitioner who wants to further develop their career and commercial skills. The primary responsibility of this new role is to lead and grow our passionate field crew (currently nine excluding casuals) through the provision of effective leadership and business management. The Field Crew business operates primarily from our Sunshine depot with some projects managed from Eltham.

To ensure this role is very well supported, we provide a broad range of support services the Field Crew Business Manager can engage with as required that includes, but is not limited to, business development & proposal support services, H&S, HR and finance & accounting.

In particular, you will:

  • Oversee the submission of successful proposals and tenders.
  • Manage the forward planning and resourcing for all client projects (supported by Team Leaders).
  • Monitor and manage appropriate field crew resourcing. 
  • Be active in the field to support the ongoing training & development of field crew staff (including team leaders and site managers).
  • Ensure all client projects are delivered to specifications and appropriately invoiced.
  • Manage the field crew's adherence to all policies & procedures with a particular focus on health, safety & wellbeing.
  • Ensure all required vehicles and equipment are available to meet workload requirements via the Depot Co-ordinator.
  • Work collaboratively with PF Olen's management to develop and execute future expansion plans.
  • Effectively engage additional resources as required to support in the delivery of the role's responsibilities.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Minimum of 5 years' experience as a Field Crew Manager or Senior Team Leader.
  • Experience in native grassland/vegetation management, restoration and weed control
  • Knowledge of flora and fauna native to the Victorian volcanic plains and the broader Melbourne area
  • Excellent organisational and workflow management skills.
  • Previous experience in building and developing a motivated team.
  • Passion for delivering excellent environmental outcomes for clients.
  • Solid understanding of all facets of running and effective and efficient field crew.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to establish and build relationships with stakeholders.
  • Well-developed problem-solving skills to think outside the box and propose creative solutions.

Ideally you will be experienced in applying best practice pest animal management strategies to undertake fox and rabbit control.

Abzeco is an ecological consulting and land management practice with expertise in flora and fauna survey and monitoring, Bushfire Management Plans, Habitat Hectare Assessments, Biodiversity Assessment Reports, Land Management Plans, Commonwealth and Victorian offset site assessments and Offset Management Plans, ecological management and restoration, weed mapping, salvage and translocation of threatened flora and fauna species, design and implementation of pest control programs and expert environmental and conservation planning advice. Abzeco is also a registered native vegetation credit register Offset Broker.
