This is a 24-Month Fixed-Term, Full-Time Position (With the Possibility of Extension or Permanency).

Ecosystem Health Branch provides the framework for efficient and effective management of invasive species including plant diseases, weeds and pest animals to help conserve natural values on lands managed by the DBCA's Parks and Wildlife Service. The branch is responsible for the coordination of the Western Shield program, Cane Toad Strategy and Vegetation Health Service diagnostic laboratory as well as providing policy support for the implementation of the Forest Management Plan.

We are currently seeking a Technical Officer to join our team.

Under the direction (Level 3) or limited direction (Level 4) of the Cane Toad Strategy Program Coordinator, this position:

• Contributes to research, development, knowledge transfer and evaluation of mitigation strategies to reduce the impact of cane toads.
• Assists with the management of data and databases as required.
• Logistical and technical support for field trips for research and cane toad impact mitigation purposes.
• Logistical and technical support for cane toad management operations as required.
• Contributes to education and communication initiatives associated with the cane toad program.

Selection Criteria

1. Experience working in nature conservation or a closely related field, with a preference for someone with knowledge of the management of invasive animals.
2. Experience (Desirable) and willingness (Essential) to work in remote locations for extended periods of time undertaking field work for research and environmental management purposes.
3. Evidence of good interpersonal and oral communication skills, with an ability and willingness to work closely with the community, indigenous and special interest groups. 
4. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and independently and self-motivated, with an ability to complete tasks within required timeframes (Essential).
