The Environmental Offsets team sits within the Parks and Partnerships business unit within PCS. It is responsible for delivering commitments linked with development approvals pursuant to the Commonwealth Government Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999.

Environmental offsets compensate for the impact on matters of national environmental significance (MNES) from development. Environmental offsets are additional land that will be protected from future development and managed to maintain or enhance the MNES in accordance with the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation ACT 1999. Environmental offset sites also protect other natural and cultural values including locally threatened species and indigenous and historic heritage values.

This position is tasked with managing a diverse team of Planners and Ecologists responsible for guiding the establishment and management of new reserves in accordance with environmental offset approval conditions.

The role is suited to someone who displays:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication;
  • Excellent record keeping and organisational skills;
  • Exceptional time management skills, specifically for meeting tight deadlines; and
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, including negotiation and relationship management.

Eligibility/ Other Requirements:

Mandatory

  • Registration under the Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act 2011.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, policies, and standard operational procedures as they apply to environmental offset approval processes and conservation land management.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Natural Resource Management, Environmental Science or equivalent.

Note: This is a permanent position available immediately. Opportunities for flexible working options could include hybrid working, being a combination of working from home, designated office based and FlexiSpace working locations across the ACT, part-time hours, job-sharing as well as flexible start and finish times. A Merit Pool will be established from this selection process and will be used to fill vacancies over the next 12 months. Selection may be based on application and referee reports only.
