The Planning Unit prepares and reviews marine and terrestrial management plans for CALM Act lands; provides advice and support to the Conservation and Parks Commission; provides specialised Geographical Information Systems (GIS) services including data collation, analysis and mapping; and develops relationships with Traditional Owners to facilitate Indigenous Land Use Agreements (ILUAs) and Joint Management Agreements (JMAs) for jointly managed areas of conservation estate.

We are currently seeking to establish a pool of suitable candidates for the role of Planning Officer (Terrestrial). Under immediate (SC Level 1) or general direction (SC Level 2), you will:

  • Undertake the preparation of terrestrial management plans, including joint management plans.
  • Integrate social, cultural and ecological research into the planning process.
  • Undertake consultation in preparation of terrestrial management plans.
  • Supervise staff as required (SCL2).

Selection Criteria

  1. A Bachelor of Science degree in a relevant discipline or an approved equivalent qualification. 
  2. Experience (SCL1) or extensive experience (SCL2) in natural resource management, including preparing strategic planning documents, and sound (SCL1) or thorough (SCL2) understanding of management planning principles, techniques and procedures.
  3. Demonstrated sound (SCL1) or considerable (SCL2) understanding of natural resource management, and the environmental, social, cultural and economic issues associated with the preparation of terrestrial management plans, including joint management plans.
  4. Well-developed (SCL1) or strong (SCL2) interpersonal skills and experience in liaison and consultation with a range of stakeholders, including departmental staff, traditional owners, local and state government, peak bodies, community and special interest groups.
