Astron is one of Australia’s longest established environmental consultancies with over 30 years’ continuous experience in Western Australia. We provide a comprehensive range of environmental services to clients in the mining, energy, infrastructure, government and utilities sectors. We employ more than 75 professional environmental staff based out of offices in Perth and Margaret River.

• We provide ongoing relevant in-house training both in the field and office to develop the necessary skills to become a well-rounded Botanist. We also have one of the largest private in-house herbariums in WA and a customized lab for flora specimen identifications (not to mention an in-house Senior Taxonomist).
• We’ve been doing this for a long time and have built a very strong reputation. You’ll be joining a highly regarded team with a huge amount of botany experience in WA. 
• The life of an Astron Botanist is great – we do a lot of work with Traditional Owners on country, we have been involved in offshore/ island work for decades, and it’s not uncommon to get to our survey areas by helicopter or boat!

The Roles

We are seeking two enthusiastic Graduate/Early Career Botanists to join our team. If you are a passionate budding botanist, we will invest in your early-stage career development with diverse opportunities and expert mentoring. In these full-time roles, you will work on a variety of projects both in the field and the office, and get exposure to an extensive range of skills to develop you into a strong and well-rounded botanical consultant.

You will frequently go on field trips to remote parts of WA where you will collect and record data, and see some pretty special parts of our state. In the office, you will collate, analyse and apply critical thinking to the data you have collected and help to provide high-quality reports.

To be considered for this role, you must meet these essential criteria:

• A degree in botany, environmental science or similar field
• No professional experience is required for the Graduate/Entry-Level position, however some level of field experience is necessary. At least one year of relevant professional experience is required for the Scientist position. 
• An Australian C-class manual driver’s licence
• Current Provide First Aid certificate (or willing to obtain)
• White Card (or willing to obtain)
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Strong focus on health and safety
• Ability to work effectively in a team
• 4WD experience (desirable)
