About the Role:

The Remote Infrastructure Manager is responsible for the management of refurbishing, maintaining and redeveloping of remote community infrastructure on the Kimberley coast to enable Traditional Owners to achieve their vision of returning to live and work sustainability and self-sufficiently on their dambeema ('homelands'). You will hit the ground running, with four (4) current outstations with existing infrastructure being the first priority.

About the Corporation:

Dambimangari Aboriginal Corporation (DAC) provides a unique opportunity to work closely with Aboriginal people in one of the most remote, spectacular regions of the Kimberley. DAC is a small Aboriginal Corporation dedicated to the benefit of our members, Dambimangari Traditional Owners. DAC is the governing body for all Dambimangari business on behalf of our members, and in line with traditional Law and Culture. We employ more than 30 staff, the vast majority of whom are Traditional Owners. The Corporation's key functions include:

  • Managing Native Title including engaging with mining, tourism and other access and development proposals.
  • Members' Services like health and education.
  • Land and sea management (Indigenous Protected Area, Ranger Program & Jointly Managed Marine Park including fire, ferals, weeds and marine patrols).
  • Cultural heritage management.
  • Economic development.

What We Are Looking For:

We are seeking an experienced project manager/facilities manager/infrastructure manager with exceptional experience in managing the lifecycle of infrastructure development and redevelopment, and ongoing maintenance. You will have excellent consultation skills and the ability to work closely with the Board, family groups, members, and community, as well as contractors. You will possess strong attention to detail, along with problem-solving skills and the ability to meet deadlines.

Duties will include:

  • Consulting with the Dambimangari Board and family groups to ensure strong community input into all phases of remote infrastructure and land use planning.
  • Working closely with family groups to develop individual site plans for use, access and opportunities for current and future outstations.
  • Leading the development of a Remote Infrastructure Project Plan for the refurbishment and ongoing maintenance of existing infrastructure and future developments, including project timelines and budgets.
  • Developing detailed project plans, timelines and budgets for each location, including repairs, redevelopment and maintenance.
  • Engaging contractors and trades to conduct infrastructure repairs, maintenance and upgrades, and removal of hard rubbish.
  • Developing and maintaining asset and inventory register for each outstation, and managing update, replacement or disposal of assets as required.
  • Seeking funding and developing partnerships to support the maintenance, repairs, and redevelopment of current and future outstations.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Demonstrated experience in managing infrastructure projects in extremely remote settings, including budgeting.
  • Ability to manage projects in a cross cultural and remote environment; including capacity to lead a team, set work priorities, solve problems, work creatively under pressure, and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to develop and maintain relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Relevant qualification in landscape architecture, engineering, architecture, town planning, business administration, construction or other relevant field (Desirable).
  • Relevant trade such as construction/building, carpentry, electrical or plumbing (Advantageous).
  • Strong communication and Interpersonal Skills.
  • MS Office Suite proficient.
  • C Class Driver's License.
  • Working with Children's Check and Police Clearance, or ability to obtain.
  • Appreciation, sensitivity understanding and some knowledge of Aboriginal and/or Torres Straight Islander history, traditions, protocols, and culture.
