  • The Science and Insights Division is seeking an Assistant Scientist to support the Water and Wetlands Team.

About the role

The Assistant Scientist is responsible for supporting the delivery of programs/projects by providing scientific/ technical skills and analysis. This includes supporting monitoring, evaluation and reporting wetland projects undertaken by NSW DCCEEW. The role involves data management, preparation and undertaking of field work, data processing and support for preparation of technical reports and other information products to communicate outcomes to both expert and non-expert audiences.

About You

We are looking for a highly motivated, hardworking individual to fill this temporary position to support the delivery of wetland monitoring, evaluation and reporting programs in our team. We would like to hear from individuals with demonstrated experience in undertaking fieldwork in wetland settings. You will also have experience planning field trips with other field staff members and be willing to travel for field work to remote areas.

Key knowledge and experience:

  • Knowledge and experience in wetland monitoring-related projects, including fieldwork planning and implementation.
  • Experience in stakeholder consultation to facilitate wetland monitoring data collection.
  • Demonstrated experience in communicating the results of wetland scientific research and monitoring.

Essential requirements:

  • Scientific qualifications and knowledge of terrestrial, wetland and/or restoration ecology.
  • Fieldwork experience or willingness to acquire field experience.
  • Based in Sydney and able to travel for field work and stay overnight for up to 2 weeks at a time in regional locations.
  • Hold current NSW Class C driver's licence.
  • Hold (or have willingness to obtain) current First Aid training.
