About the role

  • Exciting and rewarding Spatial Data Officer role supporting the NPWS hazard reduction program and bushfire response.
  • Ongoing, full-time role.

The NPWS Fire and Incident Operations Branch (FIOB) is seeking a Spatial Data Officer (SDO) to provide specialist GIS services to support the development and delivery of the NPWS Hazard Reduction (HR) program and bushfire response.

As the SDO you will manage crucial fire datasets, support the spatial components of the NPWS HR SAAS program and play an active role in project teams. You will independently manage your own time and projects under the broad direction of the Team Leader Spatial, working very closely with members of the wider FIOB team. Communication is key as you will also provide specialist GIS support to the NPWS operations branches with a wide range of GIS skills.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will:

  • Demonstrate experience in using desktop GIS applications (ArcMap, ArcGIS Pro or QGIS).
  • Demonstrate experience with data management principles including capture, quality & access.
  • Search for new and innovative solutions to problems, always striving to save time and resources and streamline processes.
  • Be an active and approachable team member whilst fostering an inclusive 'can do' attitude.
  • Provide good customer service, your role is to provide direction, advice & resources to support on ground works.

Essential requirements

  • Appropriate tertiary qualifications relevant to the discipline or equivalent experience.
  • Sound knowledge of GIS theory and how it is applied in an environmental management agency.
  • Demonstrated advanced skills and experience with both raster and vector-based GIS, including ESRI products and an understanding of GIS modelling techniques.
  • Experience in data management principles within a geodatabase, including schema development and management, building models and scripts to help manage data in accordance with defined standards.
  • Current Australian drivers licence and willingness to fly in light aircraft.
