The Werribee River Association (WRA) is seeking a part-time Regeneration Coordinator to further the work of both systemic and practical land and waterways restoration within the Werribee River catchment.

The Regeneration Coordinator is expected to provide leadership for the environment and for community involvement in habitat regeneration and restoration work in the Werribee River catchment. The Officer will undertake research in ecological restoration, support citizen science programming, develop and deliver educational sessions, seek funding opportunities, and plan and coordinate community events. All our work is conducted in partnership with stakeholders, and building relationships is a key part of the role.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct onsite tours and research to support ecological research in the catchment
  • Respond to the identified needs in the Biolink Action Plan 2010-12 and other planning documents, that support habitat restoration and preservation of important biolinks in the Werribee River catchment
  • Work with stakeholders to implement habitat regeneration work in the catchment
  • Build and maintain our existing and emerging WRA Landcare programs
  • Engage and provide community educational sessions to support healthy waterways, habitat restoration and gardening, climate resilience and related topics
  • Undertake contractor activities work as required
  • Represent WRA as required at networking meetings, workshops and events
  • Maintain and meet project budgets, expenses and funding milestone reports, and
  • Undertake other activities and tasks as directed by the General Manager

KEY PERFORMANCE OUTCOMES

Habitat Regeneration

  • Manage and develop the existing and emerging WRA Landcare, citizen science and nature stewardship programs
  • Enable broad habitat restoration work that includes ecological research, planning, site preparations and the delivery of community events to undertake plantings at key sites
  • Provide educational information to support habitat regeneration and awareness of water values, biodiversity, climate change and sustainability
  • Work with WRA staff, local Council officers, other land and water managers and community partners to advocate and support habitat restoration in the catchment

Organisational Management

  • Maintain records for record-keeping, accountability and publicity purposes
  • Develop resources for habitat education, citizen science and nature stewardship
  • Seek to sustain and grow the position through grant writing and project proposals
  • Manage expenditure and budgets associated with the position
  • Provide milestone and operational reports to the GM as required

Engagement

  • Network with diverse community and business stakeholders, build and manage strategic partnerships that support healthy land and waterways
  • Support community volunteers with Landcare, citizen science and nature stewardship
  • Recruit/community and corporate volunteers into habitat restoration programs
  • Convene and participate in meetings with staff, volunteers and key partner

Marketing

  • Assist with the promotion of the organisation, its values and programs
  • Provide advice and/or information about habitat restoration and environmental awareness to support communication and marketing activities and tool

Accountability

  • Support our values, mission, and strategic directions, and advocate for the waterways
  • Ensure projects and events comply with WRA and grant/partnership requirements
