About the team

The Natural Areas Conservation unit forms part of the broader Environment Heritage and Resilience Department. The unit is responsible for the day-to-day management and conservation actions across a 13,000-hectare estate. The NaturallyGC program enhances awareness and connects community with nature and environmental conservation through education and hands-on activities. Our initiatives include Landcare tree plantings, citizen science projects, school holiday programs, and the vibrant Naturally Gold Coast Festival. Every year, we plant over 50,000 trees with community partnerships and engage more than 15,000 participants. Be part of this impactful journey and help make a difference!

About your new role

This position will form part of the broader NaturallyGC team where your expertise in ecological restoration, community conservation programs, and volunteer engagement will shine! The role will specialise in leading community Landcare initiatives, where you will play a vital role in planning and executing tree planting activities and conservation initiatives such as citizen science within our natural areas. You’ll oversee the facilitation of volunteer events, manage diverse community conservation projects, and engage with volunteers and contractors to make a real impact. Additionally, you'll support essential administrative tasks that contribute to the success of our broader program. Responsibilities for this position include:

  • Lead the planning, execution, and on-site facilitation of community Landcare initiatives including bushcare, Landcare groups, school and corporate tree plantings and other signature environmental projects such as the Green Day Out.
  • Implementation and oversight of conservation activities such as citizen science and guided walks. 
  • Undertake comprehensive administrative and project management tasks relating to site planning, mapping, budget allocation, procurement, report writing, staffing, development of plant species guides, data management, monitoring, and coordinating all aspects and logistics.
  • Manage ecological restoration contractors to undertake site preparation and maintenance.
  • Lead and attend tree plantings, guided walks, and other environmental events to raise awareness of the NaturallyGC program. This will involve some weekend work including on-call.
  • Perform high administrative tasks with efficiencies in systems management to help deliver the daily operations of the wider NaturallyGC program.
  • Assist with strategic long-term program planning and actively seek opportunities for innovations and improvements.
  • Assist with developing and improving volunteer WH&S, program procedures and upskilling staff and volunteers.
  • Collaboration with internal and external stakeholders
