Location:

South Johnstone, Queensland

Salary etc:

$80,000 - $105,000 p.a.

If you are looking for a job that enables change in the agricultural sector, through working with banana growers to encourage and support voluntary environmental change that improves both farming sustainability and long-term profitability, then this job might be for you. Maybe you are an agronomist or a scientist looking for a new challenge supporting growers. Maybe you've got a background in communications and would like to learn more about the agricultural industry. This unique position will allow you to build your own skills in areas such as extension, agronomy, water quality, communications, soil health, soil conservation and grower education.

You will need a desire to continue to learn new skills and build your capacity to improve the sustainability of our industry.

This position is funded by the Queensland Government, through the Reef Water Quality Program and has a critical job in establishing effective relationships with growers to enhance and improve farming practices.

The banana industry is committed to improving the quality of water entering the Great Barrier Reef by improving agricultural management practices in the reef catchments. In recent years banana growers have made significant changes to their production systems to minimise their impact on water quality. In this position, you will straddle the world of science, environmental/social consciousness, sociology, social work and project delivery. You will be expected to build on your existing skills and knowledge to learn more about banana agronomy, soil conservation, water quality, water science and relational practice.

This position would suit either experienced officers or early career professionals looking to develop skills in agricultural extension. Training and support is available and can be tailored to the successful applicants experience and aspirations.

This position is funded through to June 2026.
