Lesryk is an Environmental Consulting company that has over 30 years’ experience in the ecological field. We are a small and enthusiastic team, who work together on a wide range of projects. We undertake ecological assessments, flora and fauna surveys, pre-clearing and clearing supervision studies, and prepare the associated reports. We employ people in full-time and permanent part time positions, and, to meet our staff’s personal circumstances, offer casual roles. Throughout most parts of New South Wales, we engage with small and large projects for both government agencies and private companies, and our staff contribute a variety of past and learnt new skills to these.

What we are looking for -

Lesryk is seeking a dynamic and experienced Ecologist / Project Manager to join our growing team.

The ideal candidate will have a passion for ecology, strong leadership skills, and a willingness to develop their ecological expertise further.

This role combines interpersonal skills, leadership in managing environmental projects with in-depth ecological expertise (ability to identify flora and/or fauna species as required), to facilitate field work and report writing outcomes. Be able to prepare, contribute to and implement environmental strategies.

The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing projects of varying sizes from concept through to completion, ensuring that ecological assessments are delivered on time, within scope and budget, and aligned with regulatory standards

The position can be permanent full-time or part-time – this can be discussed on application.

Our office is based in our Heathcote office, with work from home and other flexibility options available after a period of time.

What your key responsibilities will be -

  • Lead and manage environmental projects from planning to delivery, ensuring compliance with timelines, budgets, and scope (or be willing to work towards achieving this responsibility).
  • Lead and co-ordinate a team of ecologists, monitoring project progress, providing advice, managing personnel, ensuring project priorities and staff allocations.
  • Ensure ecological assessments, flora and fauna surveys, and biodiversity reports comply with State and Federal legislation.

What we consider essential -

  • Tertiary qualifications in Environmental science/ ecology or related field
  • Minimum 2 years of (full-time) experience in ecological fieldwork, report writing, including ecological impact assessments and both an understanding, and ability to produce, Reviews of Environmental Factors, and biodiversity assessment reports.
  • Ability to schedule, plan and carry out field surveys targeting a broad range of species, using recommended techniques and equipment.
  • Strong understanding of State and Federal Environmental Legislation, particularly in ecological assessments.
  • Experience with GIS mapping tools, specifically QGIS.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with strong report writing and reviewing abilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office for report preparation.
  • NSW Driver’s Licence and willingness to travel for fieldwork, including 1-4 night stays.

Other things were looking for -

  • Previous experience in Project Management
  • Either:
    • Botanical expertise with knowledge of Plant Community Types and threatened species,
          &/or
    • Fauna survey capability and species identification.
  • Demonstrated experience in team management and project leadership
  • General Induction for Construction Work in NSW certification.
  • First Aid certification.
  • 4WD training and the ability to drive a manual vehicle.
  • Position will include both office and fieldwork.
  • Applicants must be physically able to undertake field work.
