The role

Casual - the majority of our current bush regeneration work is based in Western Sydney, in the Liverpool area.

This is a unique opportunity for someone experienced in bush regeneration and is ready to share their expertise with others. The Team Leader will coordinate, supervise and coach groups of supported staff (largely young people and former refugees and asylum seekers) in the delivery of bush regeneration, rehabilitation and revegetation works in the Western Sydney area.

The main components of this role include:

  • collaborate with the Business Development Manager to ensure scope of works is fit for purpose and carried out to quality standards
  • deliver bush regeneration services on behalf of our partners
  • manage teams of supported staff to undertake works, using a community development and strengths-based approach
  • lead briefings and operational meetings
  • manage tools and equipment including planning, purchasing and maintaining
  • maintain accurate records including reports, schedules, timesheets, rosters, work health and safety
  • maintain excellent environmental and health and safety standards including pre-start checklists, site inductions and safe work method statements.

Conditions of employment will be guided by the Gardening and Landscaping Award and remuneration is an above award rate. As a not-for-profit, you can also increase your take-home pay through salary packaging benefits.

About you

Essential criteria:

  • Qualifications in Conservation and Land Management or other relevant qualification (or working towards)
  • At least two years' experience leading teams of people in bush regeneration activities
  • Ability to value, respect and work with people from diverse backgrounds, including people with employment barriers such as limited English, literacy or complex support needs
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including plain English
  • Well-developed skills in native flora and weed identification
  • Current chemical use certification (to AQF level 3 competency)
  • Chainsaw certificate of competency
  • Commitment to safe working practices
  • Developed planning and time management skills
  • Capacity to clear a NSW Working with Children Check
  • Current valid Driver's Licence
  • Rights to work in Australia

Highly desirable:

  • Experience working with disadvantaged populations, especially former refugees, young people and or Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
  • Knowledge of environmental weeds and native flora in the Western Sydney and Illawarra regions.
