Who We Are

Southern Gulf NRM (SGNRM) is a not-for-profit, community-based organisation established to provide sustainable natural resource management (NRM) services in the southern Gulf of Carpentaria region, north west Queensland. Through established partnerships we implement strategic planning and investment activities that care for our region’s natural and cultural assets. Central to our purpose is our mission to empower our community to protect, enhance and sustainably manage our natural assets, for current and future generations.

The Opportunity

At our helm we are seeking a strategically driven, well connected and inspirational CEO, to lead SGNRM into our next exciting growth phase. Supported by a high-performing and well established operational team, and working closely with a well credentialed board, the CEO will establish and deliver the strategic direction of SGNRM. Outwardly focused, this role will require exceptional stakeholder engagement skills, building collaborative partnerships required to strengthen SGNRM’s reputation as a partner of choice and trailblazer in regional NRM. As CEO, you will have the opportunity to make a significant impact, from advocating our mission in the halls of Parliament to immersing yourself within diverse communities and stakeholder groups. Your innate ability to form trusted relationships across varied cultural and professional backgrounds will be highly valued and will support organisational success.

About You

As the next CEO, you will bring:

• Charismatic leadership, with the ability to inspire, motivate and drive positive organisational culture that promotes equity, diversity, and inclusivity across geographically dispersed teams.
• Stakeholder Management, with extensive experience in stakeholder mapping and managing stakeholder interests including developing partnerships with government agencies, landholders, Traditional Owners, contractors, and community members.
• Strategic Thinking, with the ability to think creatively and holistically, building alliances, identifying opportunities for growth and diversification that align with SGNRM’s strategic plan.
• Governance Capability, including corporate governance and risk management with proven expertise in fostering positive and transparent working relationships with Board Members.
• Natural Resource Management, ideally you will have deep experience with NRM, agriculture or related fields with a practical knowledge of current NRM issues (such as ESG, natural capital accounting, Net-Zero, sustainability frameworks) and the opportunities and challenges these may present.
• Accountability, operational management including oversight of strategic development and effective management of human, financial and physical resources.
• Advocacy and Brand Management, with the ability to represent SGNRM in media and public forums, maintaining a strong reputation with key stakeholders and investors.
• Tertiary Qualifications, in a relevant discipline (Agricultural Science, Agricultural Business, Environmental Science or Management, NRM and/or Business Management).
• Post graduate qualifications would be highly regarded.
