The Northern Territory Department of Environment, Parks and Water Security is looking for an enthusiastic and suitably experienced person to work within the Rangeland Monitoring Branch as a Rangeland Monitoring Officer. The position is a permanent, full time role located in Alice Springs, providing frontline monitoring and extension services to pastoralists and the Pastoral Land Board in assessing land condition of the NT pastoral estate.
The successful applicant will have the desire to undertake field work, monitoring land condition on remote pastoral stations in the NT. They will have a basic knowledge of land condition, the NT pastoral industry and rangelands management. They will have a basic ability in the use of Microsoft Office software and an interest in upskilling in GIS and remote sensing. Effective verbal and written communication skills are important, as is the ability to assist in the preparation of quality technical reports.
Applicants will have attention to detail and willingness to safely undertake remote field work, in a small team environment for periods of up to two weeks are essential. The successful applicant must be able to cope with camping for extended periods in remote locations, with limited services and in potentially challenging climatic conditions.
