About the Roles

National Parks and Wildlife Service has a unique opportunity for two Native Title Agreements Project Officers to work to support the implementation of Indigenous Land Use Agreements and conservation of Aboriginal cultural heritage and our natural environment in partnership with Native Title holders and Aboriginal communities.

  • The Grafton-based position will oversee the implementation of all NPWS North Coast Branch Indigenous Land Use Agreements and ensure that NPWS remains compliant with native title and other relevant legal obligations.
  • The Byron Bay-based position will support the effective liaison between NPWS, Arakwal Native Title holders and external stakeholders to deliver on NPWS commitments within the various Indigenous Land Use Agreements, reserve plans of management and the decisions of the Cape Byron Trust, Arakwal and Byron Coast Area Management Committees.

As the Native Title Agreements Project Officer, you will provide diverse project management and related support services in partnership with other departmental staff, native title holders and external stakeholders to jointly manage NPWS reserves. You will be required to liaise with native title holders and key internal and external stakeholders, coordinate formal consultation meetings, develop and monitor project plans, manage external contracts, monitor budget expenditure, prepare reports and internal briefs and help to ensure compliance with Indigenous Land Use Agreements.

You are able to solve complex problems, work towards achieving stakeholder agreement and provide culturally appropriate recommendations whilst balancing Aboriginal culture, customary practices and environmental legal requirements into decision making.
