About Us:

The Wuthathi Aboriginal Corporation RNTBC (WAC) is the Registered Native Title Body Corporate holding interests for Wuthathi people in land and sea country in north-eastern Cape York Peninsula centred around Shelburne Bay. These interests include connection for 1,182 square kilometres of land including mainland, coastal and offshore islands and 8,072 square kilometres of sea country within the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park and Coral Sea.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Land Management: Assist in the implementation of land management practices that promote biodiversity conservation, cultural heritage protection, and sustainable land use.
  • Cultural Heritage Protection: Work alongside Elders and Traditional Owners to ensure the preservation and management of cultural sites and practices on Wuthathi Country.
  • Environmental Monitoring: Conduct regular surveys and monitoring of flora and fauna, water quality, and other natural resources to assess the health of the environment.
  • On-Country Activities: Participate in on-country activities, including but not limited to, fire management, weed control, feral animal management and partaking in cultural heritage based activities.
  • Community Engagement: Engage with local communities, schools, and stakeholders to raise awareness of Wuthathi culture and environmental initiatives.
  • Reporting: Maintain accurate records of activities, observations, and outcomes, and report findings to the Senior Ranger and Land Operations Manager.
  • Safety Compliance: Ensure adherence to safety protocols and procedures during all activities to promote a safe working environment for yourself and your team members.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Cultural Knowledge: A strong understanding of Wuthathi culture and connection to country is essential. Previous experience in land management or conservation is desirable but not required.
  • Teamwork: Ability to work effectively as part of a team and collaborate with diverse community members and stakeholders.
  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal communication skills to engage with the community and convey information clearly and respectfully.
  • Physical Fitness: Ability to undertake physically demanding tasks and work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Flexibility: Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends, as required by operational needs.

Selection Criteria:

Applicants are required to address the following selection criteria in their application:

  • Cultural Knowledge and Connection:
    Demonstrated understanding of Wuthathi culture, values, and connection to country. Experience or involvement in cultural practices is highly desirable.
  • Land and Resource Management Experience:
    Previous experience in land management, conservation, or environmental monitoring is preferred, but a strong willingness to learn and contribute to these areas is also valued.
  • Teamwork and Collaboration Skills:
    Proven ability to work effectively as part of a team, collaborating with community members, Traditional Owners, and various stakeholders to achieve common goals.
  • Communication Skills:
    Excellent verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage respectfully with the community, share knowledge, and promote awareness of Wuthathi cultural and environmental initiatives.
  • Physical Capability:
    Ability to undertake physically demanding tasks and work outdoors in varying weather conditions. Demonstrated fitness and stamina for on-country activities.
  • Adaptability and Flexibility:
    Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and public holidays, to meet operational needs and participate in various activities.
  • Safety Awareness:
    Understanding of workplace health and safety protocols and a commitment to ensuring a safe working environment for yourself and team members.
  • Commitment to Learning and Development:
