ABOUT THE ROLE
This position will be responsible for managing the expansion of the Gelganyem Seed Operation to include broader land management activities, particularly those involved in the ongoing rehabilitation of Argyle diamond mine. Duties include:
- Assist with recruiting, management, and supervision of the newly formed Gelganyem Land Management team, providing day-to-day management and support to ensure the efficient, safe and effective operation to meet all organisational requirements.
- Sourcing and securing third party contracts for land management activities.
- Project managing the development and expansion of a nursery facility in Kununurra and investigating and securing propagation contracts with third parties.
- Supporting the GSO Operations Manager with the day-to-day running of the seed operation, including staff management and reporting.
- Work with the GSO Operations Manager, the GSO Program Manager and the Technical Team to have continual improvement and innovation in the seed operation.
- Working with the Gelganyem team to create business plans for future land management work and responding to expressions of interest and other requests for tender relating to land management activities at Argyle and elsewhere.
- Transfer of knowledge to and from Traditional Owners regarding land management and other related activities.
- Reporting to the Gelganyem CEO and Board regarding land management activities as required.
- Travel and work away from home for periods of time to complete land management activities.
- Ability to source and successfully apply for available grants for environmental, ranger, land management, natural resource management, and other similar projects.
ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Demonstrated knowledge, experience, or qualification in botany, environmental, horticultural or another related field.
- Experience in business development, project management, or the sustainable creation of new businesses.
- Stakeholder engagement and experience working with Traditional Owners and Indigenous groups.
- Ability to demonstrate cultural sensitivity.
- Ability to manage and motivate teams and individuals.
- Extensive knowledge and keen interest of the local Kimberley flora.
- Good understanding of health, safety, and environment principles.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Strong organisational skills; a methodical and meticulous approach to all tasks.
- Computer literacy and sound ability working with Microsoft Office suites.
- Current C class Driver’s Licence.
- Complete necessary position requirements with drug, alcohol, and medical testing.
LOCATION AND REMUNERATION
This full-time, permanent position is based in Kununurra and requires extensive travel around the East Kimberley region, including working away from town for periods of time. An attractive remuneration package is on offer for the successful applicant and includes a base salary, vehicle for personal use and five weeks of accrued annual leave per year. Additional salary sacrificing payroll benefits will also be discussed with the successful candidate.
