About the Role:

We are currently seeking motivated and talented Ecologists (multiple roles, various experience levels) to join our team. You will work alongside other Environmental Scientists / Ecologists, be mentored by leading senior scientists and report to a Director with more than 20 years' experience.

This is a rewarding and diverse role which will provide you with exposure to exposure to all aspects of environmental assessment process from project due diligence, through assessment and approvals, to construction environmental management, various aspects of ecology, conservation and environmental management. It is a role for someone seeking:

We are a small but highly skilled group of specialists committed to providing the highest quality of service to our clients and improving environmental standards in our industry.  You will form part of a hand-picked team of environmental planners, ecologists, and arborists.

Requirements:

The successful candidate will have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in environmental science or science majoring in ecology, zoology or botany (Honours minimum).
  • Demonstrated experience in both botanical and zoological survey and assessment methods.
  • Queensland plant and animal identification skills.
  • Proficiency in spatial analysis (GIS).
  • Knowledge of local, State and Commonwealth environmental assessment and approvals process.
  • Open driver’s license.

Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Acquire and maintain knowledge of:
    • ­ Botanical survey and methods (including plant identification and vegetation mapping),
    • ­ Zoological (terrestrial) survey and methods,
    • ­ Landform/geomorphological survey methods,
    • ­ Water quality sampling and scientific interpretation of results.
  • Acquire and maintain qualitative and quantitative environmental impact assessment methods and tools.
  • Acquire and maintain Queensland plant and animal identification skills, particularly south east Queensland flora and fauna.
  • Proficient in preparation of:
    • ­ Preliminary environmental assessment and due diligence,
    • ­ Vegetation/environmental/fauna management plans (or equivalent),
    • ­ Ecological assessment reports (or equivalent),
    • ­ Bushfire hazard assessments and management plans,
    • ­ Revegetation and ecological restoration plans,
    • ­ Environmental offsets plans,
    • ­ Environmental development applications (including lodgement).
  • Proficient in practical aspects of vegetation/environmental/fauna management in accordance with relevant legislation and industry best practice.
  • Proficient in scientific research methods including experimental design, methods, analysis and reporting.
  • Acquire proficiency in geographical information systems.
  • Acquire and maintain knowledge of relevant local, State and Federal environmental legislation, policies and plans.
  • Acquire and maintain knowledge of local government planning schemes and relevant local laws.
  • Supervision of vegetation/environmental/fauna works in accordance with development permit conditions.
  • Respond to enquiries from the community/other professionals/government in writing/email or via the telephone.
  • Review and proof written work.
  • Office administration from time-to-time.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

  • Knowledge of various environmental survey techniques.
  • Botanical and fauna identification skills.
  • Thorough understanding of environmental legislation, policies and plans.
  • Experience in environmental assessment and management practices.
  • Demonstrated experience in the development of various environmental reports and plans.
  • Ability to manage projects, including planning and time management.
  • Flexibility in handling diverse tasks.
  • Ability to undertake detailed and accurate record-keeping.
  • Experience in spatial mapping software including ESRI products.
  • Computer literacy and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication, strategic planning, and relationship-building skills, combined with a flexible, client-focused approach to project management and problem-solving.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
