An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic, approachable, and experienced person to join an amazing and supportive Parks & Environmental team of the City of Kalamunda as a Bush Care Officer.

About this Opportunity

This position will provide on ground Environmental Services including operational management of the City's Local Natural areas with the aim of protecting and enhancing the local biodiversity features of the natural landscape and engaging meaningfully with local community. The position will also be responsible for assisting with day-to-day operations, projects, monitoring and development of an annual works plan. The Bush Care Officer will work under the direction of the Senior Projects Officer - Natural Areas. This role also includes day to day supervision and mentoring of the City’s Bushcare Officer Trainee.

Some of the key results area of this role include:

  • Assist the Senior Projects Officer - Natural Areas in the delivery of City's environmental programs.
  • Provide Bushcare advice to the Environmental Services Team.
  • Assist Friends Groups in the preparation of work plans and action plans for bushland reserves in the City of Kalamunda.
  • Implement actions and guidelines identified in the annual works plan and reserve management plans.
  • Reporting ecological threats to the City's Natural Areas to the Coordinator Natural Areas.

About You

The successful applicant will possess a high level of communication and emotional intelligence skills. Our ideal candidate will be self-managed and brimming with initiative. To be successful in this role, you should have -

  • Certificate IV in Conservation and Land Management or equivalent experience working in bushcare and bushland regeneration roles.
  • Pest Management Technician licence (handheld and backpack equipment) or basic units of qualification required to obtain the licence.
  • White card.
  • Basic Chainsaw Operation and Maintenance.
  • Basic First Aid.
  • current 'C-A' (Automatic) or 'C' (Manual) class driver's licence allowing the holder to drive legally in Western Australia.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of key bushcare and bush regeneration principles, vegetation complexes within the Southwest WA and key flora species within the Southwest WA.
  • Demonstrated ability to create works programs and self-manage the implementation of the program and work collaboratively with colleagues, and members of the public.

Hours of Work

This is a full-time permanent position working Monday to Friday, 76 hours a fortnight with negotiated RDO per fortnightly or monthly.

About the Benefits

This position is being offered on a salary of Level 5 being $72,974 - $75,185 per annum (depending on experience and skill level) plus superannuation. Other inclusions are free parking, operational allowance, annual increments, EBA salary increases, a generous superannuation co-contribution scheme, 22 days annual leave (pro rata) which attracts 17.5% loading, Corporate Health Membership, free access to online learning, discounted membership at City owned facilities. We have flexible work arrangements or the option for a rostered day off fortnightly or monthly.
