About the team

Located within the Environment Heritage and Resilience Department, the Natural Areas Conservation team are responsible for the day-to-day management and conservation of a 13,000-hectare estate with significant and diverse biological values. The unit protects and enhances the values of the City's nationally significant conservation reserves that extend from the McPherson Range to Southern Moreton Bay.

The NaturallyGC program connects community members with nature and promotes environmental conservation through education and hands-on activities. The NaturallyGC team fosters relationships with local organisations todeliver over 300 educational activities and events annually on the Gold Coast. These include Landcare tree plantings, citizen science sessions, school holiday programs, and the Naturally Gold Coast Festival, among others.

About your new role

The role will have a focus on leading the planning, organisation, and execution of community Landcare tree planting and citizen science events, with a strong emphasis on event/project management and volunteer engagement. You will also assist with the day-to-day administrative tasks related to the wider program. Your efforts will be vital in promoting environmental stewardship and enhancing community involvement in local conservation initiatives.

Responsibilities for this position include:

  • Lead the planning, project management, and event execution for community Landcare and citizen science activities. This includes site planning, allocating and managing budgets, staff rosters, volunteer management and handling logistics such as event scheduling, developing technical guides, data management, monitoring and managing supplies and materials
  • Direct and manage ecological restoration contractor activities for community projects with work requests for site preparation and maintenance
  • Implement signature events including school/corporate tree planting projects and the Green Day Out
  • Perform high administrative tasks to help deliver the ‘day to day’ management of the NaturallyGC program, such as, responding to Councillor, community, volunteer and supplier enquires, management of event websites and ticketing platforms (Eventbrite), procurement processes (SAP), venue bookings and data management (Excel)
  • Develop content and deliver marketing opportunities to enhance the programs profile, encourage community participation and raise environmental awareness
  • Assist with strategic long-term program planning and actively seek opportunities for program innovations and improvements
  • Assist with developing and improving WH&S, program procedures and upskilling staff
  • Lead and attend Landcare tree plantings, events and other community engagement opportunities to raise awareness of environmental conservation and the NaturallyGC program
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders including volunteers for work streams or working groups as required

We're looking for people who have:

  • You have highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written
  • You're a team player with a strong work ethic who has a passion for the environment and who enjoys working collaboratively
  • The ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment with competing priorities whilst remaining calm and approachable
  • Must be a self-starter and display a high level of initiative
  • You have a strong interest in the environment and keep up with emerging nature-based trends, and are passionate about sharing your knowledge with the local community
  • Diploma in Conservation & Land Management or equivalent knowledge
  • You have demonstrated experience performing administrative tasks, using a variety of software, including procurement (SAP), customer service (Outlook), data management (Excel), event website management (Eventbrite), developing Newsletters (Campaign Monitor), developing digital marketing content (Canva), and filing documents (Objective) and images
  • C Class Drivers Licence
  • Blue Card (Child related activity) 
  • Ability to work on weekends when required
