Species and Communities Program coordinates the listing, management and recovery of threatened species, ecological communities and wetlands. The program provides policy, strategic and technical advice on fauna, flora, ecological community and wetland conservation, and manages projects for the promotion of conservation on land not managed by the department.

We currently have an opportunity for a Conservation Ecologist to join our team.

In this position, you will contribute to the ongoing conservation and management of conservation significant threatened ecological communities through expert advice, impact assessment, development of conservation programs, written reports, policy advice and input to other processes as they arise. You will also liaise with departmental staff, external stakeholders and the community on issues relating to ecological community conservation.

Selection Criteria

  1. Sound knowledge and experience as a botanist or ecologist in the field of conservation and land management (ESSENTIAL), including knowledge of and experience in ecological community conservation (DESIRABLE).
  2. Proven skills in sourcing and synthesising complex scientific information for use in threatened species or ecological communities conservation programs, or development of recovery programs (ESSENTIAL).
  3. Relevant experience in the preparation of reports, submissions and correspondence that relate to ecological conservation and management (ESSENTIAL).
