The opportunity

This role will coordinate and deliver a project aimed at restoring woodland habitat, landscape connectively, and populations of woodland birds on private rural properties across the Lockyer Uplands region near Toowoomba. To encourage landscape-scale management of temperate woodlands and associated habitats for woodland birds, this project consists of a combination of monitoring, community education and engagement, restoration planning with landholders, and seeking funds to undertake targeted on-ground habitat restoration. This position will also be responsible for budgeting, reporting and evaluation of project delivery.

To be successful in this role you will need a degree in conservation biology, environmental science or related field, or equivalent relevant work experience, with a demonstrated ability to manage projects, budgets and staff. Knowledge of bird conservation in Australia is essential, as is demonstrated experience in working successfully with rural community groups on land management and/or habitat restoration. Experience in fundraising and grant writing will be highly valued. For a full understanding of the requirements of this role, please refer to the attached position description.

What you need to know

This is a full-time position (1.0 FTE) offered on a maximum term contract initially. Continuation of the role will be subject to available funding. The position is based in the Lockyer Uplands region near Toowoomba. It is expected that the successful applicant would work from a home office (or similar) situated within or immediately adjoining the project area. Alternative locations will be considered based on strategic merit.

Applicants must possess corresponding work rights to be eligible for appointment, a current national police check (NPC), a valid Working with Children Check (WWCC) (or willingness to obtain) and evidence of qualifications (if applicable).
